Liverpool had to work hard at Turf Moor to register a victory over Burnley on Wednesday night. But the challenge this afternoon was tougher and trickier at South Coast against an upbeat Bournemouth side who have been challenging the best sides of the league with some pulsating football.
But their challenge looked feeble in front of the Reds who hammered four past the Cherries to replicate an identical 4-0 scoreline at Vitality Stadium similar to the previous meeting.
The hosts never settled in despite being threatening with free-flowing football but were unlucky to concede midway through the first half when Mohamed Salah scored from an offside position. Roberto Firmino’s strike was dealt with by Asmir Begovic, however, the Egyptian was quickest to react to put the rebound into the back of the net. Bournemouth pressed hard to find an equalizer but failed to break the Reds’ defensive resilience in spite of creating a few decent chances. The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Liverpool.
It did not take long for the visitors to double the lead who capitalized on a mistake by Steve Cook. Roberto Firmino found Mohamed Salah who kept on running despite being fouled by the Bournemouth centre-back and had an exquisite finish to make it 2-0. Cook was once again involved in a howler when he put Andrew Robertson’s cross into his own net, thus, ensured all three points for the opponents.
The game was not over yet as Salah was looking for more. He completed his hattrick in the most spectacular manner by picking up Adam Lallana’s pass, outpacing Cook, toying with Begovic before putting it into the back of the net. A 4-0 victory secured the top of the table spot with Manchester City set to contest Chelsea later this evening.
