Manchester United although won in midweek, however, are winless in the last two games and currently seven points from the top four. Southampton, on the other hand, have been awful this season and has gone 11 games in all competitions without a win, in a run stretching back to September 1. They only have gathered 8 points in the league, loitering 19th in the table, while crashing out of Carabo Cup midweek against Leicester City.

Certainly, the heat is now being turned up on both the managers who would at every way look for all the three points from the game. Jose Mourinho and his men will start this match hoping for an easy win over a struggling Southampton side to climb further to the top four. On the other side of things, Mark Hughes will be looking to save his job for another week and get a much-needed result at home against a top Six club who are far from perfect this season.

Southampton vs Manchester United Team News:

Mark Hughes is sweating over the fitness of star man Danny Ings who has been missing for the Saints’ previous two fixtures. The English international is expected to undergo a late fitness test but probably is passed still will not be thrown in the lineup. The Liverpool loanee has four Premier League goals this campaign and would be a huge miss for Southampton if unable to take part. In his place, Gabbiadini could take lead the side. Captain Ryan Bertrand is also expected to return in the team after serving his one-game ban last weekend against Fulham. Hughes, however, will mostly miss youngster Matt Targett who is a doubt for the hosts after being substituted against Leicester on Tuesday following a head injury, but with Bertrand available again, Hughes will not be too concerned.

United, on the other hand, will be without their first team defender Victor Lindelof, who lately has been their best consistent player. The Swedish defender faces around a month on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury against Crystal Palace last weekend and in his place, Jones could slot in who played full 90 minutes midweek against Young Boys.

The Red Devils will also be without star attacker Alexis Sanchez who has been a disappointment this season. As per Mourinho, the Chilean has suffered a hamstring injury and likely will not play again this year. Most notable exclusion, however, is expected to take place in the right-back area as Mourinho has insisted he is about to give youngster Diego Dalot a chance ahead of Ashley Young. Dalot only played two matches, one against Young Boys and one against Derby County but since then was out injured.
