Premier League three talking points: Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

This year the Chelsea squad have already proved to be a nightmare to many defences.

The former Premier League champions Chelsea from the West London continues their unbeaten form in this season following their dominated 3-1 victory over the city counterpart Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Crystal Palace can be considered as the giant killers as they have been always a tough challenge for the big names. But this Chelsea team under Maurizio Sarri do not seem to get carried away with the past records and as a result, they have outplayed Roy Hodgson’s boys with sheer dominance. Chelsea knew that they would reach the second place with a victory following Liverpool’s draw in the last game against Arsenal. The Spanish forward Alvaro Morata’s brace helped them to do the job with some ease. Now, let us throw some lights on the three talking points from the game:

  1. Rejuvenated striker: Alvaro Morata?: Since joining The Blues, it has been a tough spell for the Spanish forward Alvaro Morata, as he failed to prove his worth following long-term goal drought. Even the Chelsea fans denied to back him in recent times. But the under-pressure striker has reportedly found his goalscoring boots as the striker has scored five goals in his last six starts for The Blues in all competition. This stat can prove the players run toward his lost form under the new manager Maurizio Sarri. Against Crystal Palace, Morata was instrumental as Chelsea took the lead following the Spaniard’s clinical striker instinct from Pedro’s cross. Moreover, his left-footed finish let The Blues take the lead when the score was levelled. The striker could have ended the game with a hattrick behind his name, had he not missed the opportunity in the end to beat the Palace’s last man Wayne Hennessey. But this form can definitely provide some relief to the Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri.
  2. Sarriball has been successful so far: Since the arrival of the ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri, Chelsea fans have been witnessing a massive turn-around in their game-play, that they have not seen for many years. With high possessional mentality, Sarri’s strategy is comprised of attacking game. The key man in the midfield Jorginho is the nucleus of the team as he organizes the game from the middle of the pitch. Reportedly, this team is not dependent on any single player as they are reliant on team game more. As an example, we can notice that without the presence of their key man Eden Hazard because of injuries, Chelsea have been dominant in their last few games. So, this year this Chelsea squad have already proved to be a nightmare to many defences.

  3. David Luiz’s novice mistakes are costing his side: Irrespective of some good football, Chelsea have been paying costs for some schoolboy mistakes by David Luiz in the game. Reportedly, since joining Chelsea again from Paris Saint Germain, David Luiz has been one of the most important men in the Chelsea defence. Under Maurizio Sarri, he has been partnering with the German international Antonio Rudiger in the first XI to follow his defensive duties. Despite a good game throughout the match, his one mistake has been leading Chelsea to concede goals. We have already seen this same story when Chelsea hosted Manchester United a few weeks ago. Yesterday also, his one mistake allowed Palace to level the score. Although this mistake was forgiven following Chelsea’s 3-1 victory in the end, this silly mistakes can provide Sarri little worries against big teams.
