Manchester United target Jordi Alba will be forced to wait until the end of the season for a new contract with Barcelona as the club refuses to meet the demands of the left-back.

The Spaniard is in his seventh season at the Camp Nou, currently tied to the club till the summer of 2020. However, there have been doubts over the Spaniard’s future in Catalonia after Manchester United reportedly showed interest in signing the full-back. By the time Alba’s contract expires, the fullback will be 32-years-old and this might be the reason the club hierarchy are relaxed about the contract negotiations.

Alba has continually shut the rumors linking him with a move away from the Nou Camp and is also shining under Ernesto Valverde’s management. Alba has repeatedly said that he is happy at Nou Camp, hence the contract renewal is believed to be nothing more than a The 29-year-old is a key part of the Valverde’s squad as the telepathic connection between him and Leo Messi has had a great influence on how Barcelona play. Jordi Alba had some difficulties to deal with under ex-Barca and current Spain boss Luis Enrique, but since Valverde’s arrival at the club, everything seemed just fine. The left-back has missed only 70 minutes of action this season and is likely to be protected by the manager as Barcelona don’t have a back-up for him.

Alba’s current contract has a release clause of €150million but according to Sport, the defender is not satisfied with the amount he is earning. The left-back has been lighting up the final third this season for Barcelona and believes he deserves an improved contract as the current one does not reflect his performances on the field.

Alba was brilliant against Real Madrid in Sunday’s El Clasico as the defender grabbed an assist by setting up Coutinho for the opener. Jordi Alba’s current wage is £100,000 per week and after witnessing a mesmerizing performance from the fullback, there is no doubt he deserves a pay raise. However, if the club doesn’t come up with an improved contract, he might look into other options, and with Manchester United reportedly interested due to Luke Shaw’s frequent injuries, things can get a bit dramatic in the coming summer window.
