Transfer Update: Chelsea eye Azzurri Wonderkid, facing competition from Serie A giants

Federico Chiesa is on Sarri's radar but will have to fend off Juventus and Napoli's interest first.

Italy, the four-time World Champions, are undergoing a crisis in recent times, having failed to make it to Russia earlier this year but are hopeful of a resurgence in near future banking on a string of youngsters who are making significant strides in Serie A football. Federico Chiesa, the 20-year-old Fiorentina winger is already being monitored by several European heavyweights but Chelsea, as per reports, are leading the chase of acquiring the prospect in January when the window will reopen.

Chelsea, under new chief Maurizio Sarri, are enjoying a perfect start to their Premier League campaign clinching five successive wins. They are now leading the league tally over Liverpool on goal difference and are keen on strengthening themselves furthermore in order to attain the title glory. Chiesa, the Azzurri wonderkid, progressed through the youth ranks of the Tuscany-based outfit and is currently having his third successive term in Italian top division.

The youngster netted 6 times last season and has started off the new campaign brightly with a goal against Chievo and assist versus Udinese. He has represented his nation in several youth ranks but is now a regular with the senior side having featured 7 times so far this calendar year. Chiesa is known for his swift movements, strong dribbling traits, cut insides and ability to create chances using the width of the pitch. Sarri, the former Napoli boss, has monitored him closely in previous years but needs to break the bank to rope him in the January transfer window.

The player told Corriere Della Sera in the summer, also there are reports of a rejected £50m bid from champions Juventus. Fiorentina, as things stand, are not going to blink easily for their prized asset and the Blues, therefore, must offer a fee more than the supposed £63m figure to tie down Chiesa at Stamford Bridge. Although Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian are in scintillating form, the latter duo are in their 30s and need a worthy successor in the longer run. The starlet fits the bill to shine in ‘Sarriball’ thus should be roped in ahead of other admirers in order to enhance their attacking armory.
