After nearly making his way out of Chelsea this Summer transfer window, Chelsea are set to reward veteran defender David Luiz with a new contract after manager Maurizio Sarri’s comfort with the Brazilian’s performance.
The 31-year-old joined Chelsea two years ago and was one of the pivotal figures in their way to the Premier League title in 2016-17. The Brazilian was accommodated in a back-three central role by the previous manager Antonio Conte and the defender made the choice justified by guiding them to league titles in his return to Stamford Bridge.
However, Luiz’s second season under the former Juventus boss did not go well as an alternation following Chelsea’s defeat against Atletico in Champions league last year, the player saw his stakes down under Conte and he was frozen out by the boss.
He barely featured under Conte in the second half of the last season, making just four appearances in 2018. The defender consequently was linked with a move away from England to revive his career with Monaco and Napoli interested in the player. But after the Italian was sacked and Sarri’s arrival the defender has again seen a fresh ray of hope at Chelsea.
Sarri’s switching to a four-man defence, Luiz has played every match so far in the heart of defence playing a key role in the club’s 100% start.

Although at times, the player looked a little susceptible defensively but it is believed that Sarri is happy with the adaptation power of the veteran player and ready to tie him down to a new deal at the club.
The current contract of the 31-year-old former PSG star will expire next summer thus with Bosman transfer rule the player can search for a new club since coming January but Chelsea apparently do not want to make that gamble.
The FA Cup winner as per UK Sun reportedly are keen to have negotiations wrapped up by January and even ready to abandon their stringent policy over contract extensions for players over 30 by offering Luiz a two-year deal. The new deal also will present him a £125,000-a-week contract, a decent pay rise from his previous deal.

Luiz’s ball-playing ability has been a great factor behind Sarri’s decision of including him in the set-up regularly and the former Napoli boss also recently hailed the player’s performance. And given the statement, it looks unlikely the player would at the moment think life outside Chelsea furthermore provided Sarri happy with him he’s destined for an extended stay for Chelsea at least for two more years.
Luiz played full 90 minutes last week in Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Cardiff City to maintain their 100% record, with an Eden Hazard hat-trick sealing their place at the top of the table.
