The Spanish youngster joined the Blues from Athletic Bilbao a month ago after Thibaut Courtois preferred to sign for Real Madrid and from that point forward he has had a fine beginning to his Premier League career, winning four League games, and keeping two clean sheets all the while.

However, at first, Chelsea were tipped to sign Alisson before his turn to Liverpool, while Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland were another couples of names considered. But at the end, Chelsea replaced the Belgian shot-stopper by smashing their transfer record to get him from Bilbao in a £71.6million deal.

However, earlier Kepa was strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid but the Spaniard at that point chose to renew his agreement with the Basque club, dismissing the Los Blancos project. He was too considered as an option for Juventus number one following Buffon’s departure.

But now the 23-year-old has clarified that he at first chose to ignore all such proposals but when Chelsea made their move he could not resist himself as the Premier League club’s recent history of success was excessively fascinated while he enjoyed the lengths the Londoners went to get the settlement over the line.

When asked why he finally agreed to join Chelsea after rejecting approaches from Real and even Juventus, Kepa told Spanish publication AS: “It is a great club, which in recent years has won the Champions League, Europa League and the Premier League.”

“It’s a team with great players. It was an important bet and I am happy to take this step, I want to enjoy it.

“I started the pre-season with Bilbao and it was several weeks, Chelsea showed their interest.

“There were talks and everything was carried out.

“I’m happy for all the effort that Chelsea has made because it’s not easy to pay those amounts and I’m looking forward to returning it on the field.”

Kepa is now with the Spanish national team and could get a debut against England at Wembley this Saturday in the Uefa Nations League. He also was part of Spain’s squad at the World Cup, where De Gea made some uncharacteristic errors but could not get a game. But now with current ongoing form, the youngster might look to challenge last season’s premier league’s golden glove winner.
