The Blues from the West London have started their campaign in a dynamic note. Shaking off the disappointments of the last season followed by a defeat in the FA Community Shield last week, they registered a dominated 3-0 away victory over the underdogs Huddersfield Town in their opening game of the campaign.
The newly appointed Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri switched his formation to 4-3-3 from the 3-4-3, which was introduced by the previous Italian Antonio Conte. The new inclusions Kepa Arrizabalaga and Jorginho have had their debut as they were brought into the starting XI. The Belgian sensation Eden Hazard was left out of the starting line-up to let him stay fresh for their next derby encounter against Arsenal. On the other hand, the Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner started his squad with the 3-5-1-1 formation, where Steve Mounie was the only striker up front.
Chelsea started the game with sheer dominance and high possession, as we can expect from the ex-Napoli manager. But they were unable to break the resistance of the home defence and they had to wait for the 34th minute in the game when they registered their first attempt on goal. Incidentally, the World Cup winner N’Golo Kante’s this particular shot following Willian’s delivery gave Chelsea the lead.
At the end of the first half, Chelsea increased their lead as Marcos Alonso was brought down in the box and the new inclusion Jorginho showed his calm composure from the spot.
Chelsea continued their dominance and in the 80th minute of the game, the Spanish winger Pedro scored following an individual brilliance from the Belgian Eden Hazard. With the victory, Chelsea have already had the best possible start of the season. This confidence can be carried forward to their next crucial derby against Arsenal.
