The Premier League has always been like the monsoon rain of Asia, unpredictable yet soothing.
The best of English football have always had its fair share of surprises. Starting from Blackburn Rovers winning the Premier League title in 1994-95 season to getting relegated, The Premier League has always retained its surprises for the viewers. However, what makes the Premier League the most exciting league among all the top European leagues is the multiple number of significant title challengers that the league has to offer before it actually kicks off. Among all the fun facts that surrounds the most sought after league is a fact that is bitter for one of the most decorated sides of English football – Liverpool F.C. The five time European Champions who also happen to be 18 time league winners have never won the Premier league after it was renamed.
Liverpool always have been a side that has produced players who have gone on to make it big on the big stage. From the likes of Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso to the recent stars of the present in the likes Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the Merseyside outfit has always seen a set of talented players brace the Anfield pitch in front of the Kop. However, the trophy that has always eluded the Reds is the prestigious league title.
With the start of the new season, the Reds seem to have new hopes concerning the league title. A team that has shown a lot of promises under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool made it to the final of the last Champions League to end the tournament as runners-up behind champions Real Madrid. However, this time the Reds have gone in hard in search of silverware and have made quite a few additions to their squad that has made their team a force to reckon with.
The signings of Naby Keita and Fabinho have been a huge boost for the midfield of Liverpool. While a free flowing goal scoring playing style is what makes Liverpool a joy for their fans, the team had been missing a central defensive midfielder who would intercept the passes from the midfield and would help out the defense at the same time. Fabinho seems to be the perfect man for the job and with him in the side Liverpool have a solid defensive midfielder to rely on.
With the departure of Emre Can, Liverpool have a better replacement in the form of Naby Keita. A typical box-to-box midfielder, Keita is known for his scintillating ball playing skills and with a forward line consisting of Salah, Mane and Firmino, he is expected to run riot in the opposition midfield. Further, the standout signing for Liverpool FC happens to be Brazilian shot stopper Alisson Becker. Alisson was instrumental in Roma’s magical run to the semi finals of the Champions putting up an impressive display of supreme shot stopping against Barcelona in the round of eight and holds the key to all the goal keeping problems Liverpool have had in the yester years.
An analysis from ESPN FC shows that Liverpool never had luck on their last season. Putting aside all the defensive casualties, during the previous Premier League campaign, Liverpool were denied 12 points due to refereeing errors from the match officials. According to the pundits of ESPN FC, the extra 12 points would put Liverpool in 2nd position with a shot at the Premier League title. Despite all the problems, the Reds look in great shape going into the new season with a 5-0 win against Napoli.
With all the new additions, this seems to be the season for Liverpool where they could give Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City a run for their money in all domestic competitions and the Premier League. And as far as the Champions League goes, Liverpool have always been the team from England to step up time and again and would look forward to roll back the good old days of Rome and Istanbul. As far as the new season goes, merry songs of “ Allez Allez Allez” is what all fans would look forward as the team is all set to shine in silverware.
