While the rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have been buying big names during this transfer season, Manchester United’s shopping list only contains the names of Brazilian midfielder Fred, talented youngster Diogo Dalot and a veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Jose Mourinho, however, knows that he needs more players, should he wants to challenge for the coveted title this season. Earlier this week, during a press conference, the Portuguese even said that he is eyeing for a couple of new players. Albeit he did not reveal any name that time, speculations suggested that he would be going for an established center back. And that speculation has been proved to be true.
In a recent update, it has come to light that Manchester United management have offered a hefty deal for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. According to sources, the deal is in the range of £65 millions, making the 25 year old one of the costliest defenders in the world.
This saga, however, should take an interesting turn soon, as Leicester City are not at all interested in selling the Englishman. They have already lost their key man Riyad Mahrez, who has joined Manchester City a couple of weeks ago.
Maguire is just into his second season at the King Power, after joining from Hull City last summer. He was the main force at the Leicester defence during the 2017/18 campaign, playing every minute of the British top tier. The central back was also declared the Player of the Year for the club. He continued his good show in national colours too. Playing for England, Maguire produced an outstanding display in the recently concluded World Cup. These performances, both for club and the country, were enough to grab the attention of the big clubs. Along with Manchester United, the defending champions Manchester City were also monitoring him for some time.
It goes without saying that the Manchester United target is very valuable and naturally, the 2015/16 Premier League champions want to keep him by all means. Reports suggest that the Foxes management are even willing to offer Maguire over £100,000-a-week wage, making him the top earner in the club. The player, however, is known to be ambitious and he is very interested in moving to Old Trafford. With the conflict, this transfer story is surely going to be more eye-catching in coming days.
Manchester United are touring the United States at the moment. Their performance has not been top notch though, mostly due to the fact that a lot of first team players, including Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard are not traveling with the team. Mourinho’s side have so far drawn against Club America and San Jose Earthquakes, before winning a long and arduous penalty shootout against AC Milan yesterday.
