The confusing and calamitous weeks at Chelsea seem to be over now as the English giants are back in business following the dismissal of Antonio Conte and set to announce Maurizio Sarri, the former Napoli boss, as their new manager within hours.
The Blues have hijacked the deal of Jorginho from Manchester City as the Azzurri international is set for a reunion with Sarri at Stamford Bridge. The midfield general was pivotal in Napoli’s scintillating Serie A season where they narrowly missed out the title glory to Juventus but is now set for a new challenge of scripting a revival at Chelsea and guide them back to title contention after missing out a Champions League berth the last term.
They, meanwhile, are aggressively pursuing multiple transfers with less than a month remaining for the new season to kick-off and reportedly chasing three new signings in form of Aleksandr Golovin, Daniele Rugani and Alisson Becker.
Golovin, the 22-year-old central midfielder of CSKA Moscow, enjoyed a blistering World Cup run with Russia and the Blues, having made multiple flop signings last season, are keen on reconstructing the midfield with fresh recruits. Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko failed to leave an impact whereas Barcelona’s interest in N’Golo Kante might see Chelsea making significant alterations in the middle of the park. Golovin is rated highly for his enormous talent and will be a massive inclusion if stays fit and continues his stellar show for his club and country.
Their defence, too, needs reshuffling as David Luiz is set to depart being surplus to requirements whereas Antonio Rudiger failed to cement his place due to inconsistency. Gary Cahill is in his thirties and Andreas Christensen, though holds a bright future, is too young to feature twice a week in a busy schedule. Rugani, 23, has been impressive in limited game-time at Juventus and is open to a move in order to achieve regular status in a central defensive role. The Blues have reportedly offered a £35m offer for the Azzurri international and a deal is likely to be struck pretty soon as per several reports.
With the inevitable exit of Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea will be keen on bringing in a quality replacement and Alisson Becker of Roma, a transfer target of both Liverpool and Real Madrid, is being chased by the London giants as well. The asking fee for the Brazilian is significantly high that has refrained both the Reds and Los Blancos from pursuing further, but the aggressiveness in Chelsea camp might see Alisson protecting their goal from next month onwards.
