The World Cup has already produced a lot of surprises and after last night’s two quarter-finals, it is safe to say that the Cup is gonna be won by an European nation. In the last of the quarterfinals tonight, Hosts Russia will once again be roared on by the thunderous crowd at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi when they take on the dark horses Croatia.
If Sweden are the surprise packages of the World Cup 2018, the hosts Russia won’t be lagging too far behind. After a blistering 5-0 start to the world cup against Saudi Arabia on the opening night, the Russians have knocked out Egypt and Spain since. Their win against the 2010 champions was their biggest in history as an independent nation. They have been very impressive as a team and have taken full benefit of the home advantage. Their record cap winning captain have inspired the relatively inexperienced bunch of players from the country of revolution.
Croatia on the other hand, have been the Dark Horses ever since 2002. In spite of boasting of a handful of talented players over the years, the Croatian team have not lived up to the expectations ever since. But the new look 2018 team is making the nation dream again. After topping the group consisting of Argentina, Nigeria and Iceland with 3 wins out of 3, the Croatian fans all over are dreaming that the East European nation can finally achieve the dream of global supremacy.

Russia will, however, be without injured forward Alan Dzagoev for the match. Former Chelsea FC man Yuri Zhirkov will also be carrying a calf injury into the match.
