The Gunners are poised to get Lucas Torreira after a €30 million deal was agreed with Serie A side Sampdoria, and the Italian club’s president also said that Torreira is being sold. But the move hasn’t yet been made official by any of the clubs due to the ongoing World Cup.

It has been reported that Torreira wants to complete his switch only after the World Cup ends and his father also said so.

The Gunners did offer the player to undergo a medical in Russia, but the player rejected as he wanted to commit wholly on national duty.

“Arsenal offered to do the medical examinations in Russia but we decided against it because we felt it’s inconvenient, it is not the right time,” Torrira’s father said to Fox Sports Argentina.

But he also said that the deal is on and the 22 year old will eventually be joining Arsenal as soon as the campaign ends for Uruguay.

“There are many clubs who contacted us but we have given our word to Arsenal and are very satisfied with what they offered.”

“The deal is virtually done and only the arrival of Lucas is remaining,” he added.

The Uruguay International has been commendable in the World Cup and his defensive trait has been identified as the perfect fit for the Arsenal side, as they have lacked the steel in midfield for a long time now. Under the guidance of Unai EMery, it has to be seen how the Uruguayan adapts to his new surroundings, which will be a challenging one as his father thinks.

Ricardo, Lucas’ father said that the move will be a difficult one for Lucas, but assured that there will be people with the midfielder to help him settle in London.
