Chelsea have accepted defeat in pursing Thibaut Courtois to sign a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge and the Belgian custodian, having less than 12 months left in his current deal to run out, is looking for a move out to attain elite European glory amid news of a transfer to Real Madrid.

A host of Europen heavyweights are in search of a new ‘number 1’ with AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains the chief transfer target of many. A €70 mil price tag, meanwhile, has fended off Los Blancos and Liverpool as per latest reports whereas Chelsea, desperate to bring in a new keeper, are now leading the race to wrap up the Brazilian.

The London heavyweights, nevertheless, are keeping their options open and reportedly interested in Leicester City custodian Kasper Schmeichel, the Danish international, who was integral in the Foxes miraculous Premier League triumph a couple of years back. The 31-year-old veteran is recently in news for his heroics against Croatia in World Cup Round of 16 where he not only saved Luka Modric’s spot-kick in the closing minutes of the game but also stopped two more during the tie-breaker showing his enormous skills as well as aggression. Although he failed to script a victory having let down by his compatriots during the shootout, the experience and excellence between the sticks fit him in any top-notch European outfit without a doubt.

Roma, meanwhile, are also readying a bid for Schmeichel amid confusion over Alisson’s future which will only be sorted out upon completion of the World Cup. The Leicester custodian won’t come cheap as well but the asking fee set by the former Champions will be much lower than that of Roma’s man and it is to be seen now how this entire saga concludes in coming days.
