The round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup has kicked off and already the first two matches lived up to the expectation. In spite of both Portugal and Argentina crashing out of the world cup, along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the first two knockout round matches were great and produced 10 goals on the very first night. As we move into the second day of the matches, our focus shifts to the second match of the night, where Group D winners Croatia meet Group C runners Denmark in an all European clash.

Croatia have been one of the most consistent sides of the World Cup and their win against Argentina in the group stages made the world sit back up and take notice of them. Croatia have always been the Dark Horses of the World Cups ever since they pulled up the biggest upset of recent times by finishing 3rd in 1998. But surprisingly this is their first knockout appearance since their debut exploits. Current Croatia is as much talented, if not more than the 1998 team and they have one thing extra their predecessors did not have the experience of the top level. Almost all their players in the starting XI play in top European clubs and are immensely experienced to deliver on the big stage.

Denmark, on the other hand, will be playing their first knockout match since 2002. Denmark have been pretty impressive in the world cup so far and have been the second-best team defensively after Uruguay. The Denmark team have been also eye-catching while they have gone forward. Even though they are not as talented as their famous team from the 90s or even 2002, but still this team makes up by being very well synchronized and disciplined.

It can be concluded that the match can be a very challenging one for both the sides. Croatia will undoubtedly go into the match as the favorites, but given the record of the Danish defense and their knack for the counter, it will not be a cakewalk for the East Europeans; the Scandinavians might just pull off a surprise and advance.
