While hosts Russia are looking rock solid with two convincing victories, Uruguay haven’t looked convincing at all in their two 1-0 victories. Egypt disappointed the fans all across after they crashed out of the world cup with two successive losses against Uruguay and Russia. Saudi Arabia have been one of the worst teams in the tournament so far, conceding 6 goals without scoring one.

Group A Preview(s):

Saudi Arabia vs Egypt will be a match for just mere formality and will be for salvaging pride for both the Arab nations. Egypt have fared better than the two nations despite a 3-1 defeat against Russia in their second match which sealed their fate. Saudi Arabia will be starting as the underdogs after a slightly improved performance against Uruguay in their second match. They had earlier been thumped 0-5 by the hosts on the opening day of the World Cup. They did not look to threaten the goal in their opener, however, they came close more than once in their second match, in which they lost to a solitary Luis Suarez goal.

Egypt impressed in their opener when they held the Uruguayans up until the last minute of the game, without their talisman Mohamed Salah. But a very dismal performance against the Russians, despite the return and scoring of Mo Salah, knocked them out of the Cup. They will certainly start as favourites in their last match, and the onus will be on Mo Salah and co. to conclude their campaign on a high.

Hosts Russia reached the knockout stages for the first time in their history since the old Soviet Union was disbanded. They have been one of the most dominating sides in their 2 victories in front of a packed home support. The onus to win will be definitely on them to beat La Celeste and finish top of Group A. Uruguay have been one of the best defending sides in the World Cup, and the credit for the same goes to their centre back duo of Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez. It will be interesting to see who wins in the duel between the ruthless Russian attack and the stubborn Uruguayan defense.
