Mbappe scored the winner for France

Setting the Scene:

France had won against Australia in the first match 2-1 as Pogba netted the winner for them, while Denmark won against Peru from a Poulsen goal. It was a crucial match for Peruvians as lost would have meant their exit from the World Cup.

Review:

Denmark played the earlier match against Australia. The European side took the lead through their talismanic captain Christian Eriksen after six minutes, but Australia came back to level terms through Mile Jedinak, who converted a penalty in the 38th minute. The match was pretty even as both sides had equal chances, but none could score anymore as it ended 1-1 after the final whistle. It means Denmark have 4 points after two matches while Australia get off the mark with a point in the World Cup.

In the other match of the group, France won against Peru 1-0, which means the Latin American side are out of the World Cup and will be heading back home. Kylian Mbappe scored the solitary goal of the match to clinch a massive victory for the 1998 Champions. Giroud’s shot was blocked by a Peruvian defender but straight came into Mbappe’s feet who tapped it in in front of an open goal. Peru improved significantly in the second half but their Latin flair wasn’t enough to break the France defense.

Aftermaths:

France will face Denmark in the next game day and Giroud and his team will have to avoid defeat to finish as group winners. But a defeat for Denmark and a two goal margin win for Australia can take the Socceroos to the knockout stage.
