Arsenal News: Gunners custodian Leno speaks about his relationship with other players

Shkodran Mustafi joined the Gunners from Valencia while Ozil came to Arsenal from Real Madrid.

Bernd Leno has just joined Arsenal, but he will not be a complete stranger to some of the Arsenal players, and the player himself spoke about the players he already knows in the current team.

Leno joined Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen but he will see familiar faces at his new club with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi, with whom he has played for Germany. He also played with Mustafi in the German youth sides and said the kind of relationship he has with the centre back.

“I’ve known Musti for about 10 or 11 years. We grew up together in the youth national teams, the under-17s through to the under-21s. It’s funny to see us together at Arsenal now,” he said.

And the keeper also admitted that Mustafi has only said positive about the North London club and he talked with Mustafi about Arsenal some moths ago. Leno said, “He said it’s a fantastic club with a fantastic stadium and fantastic fans. I watched games on the TV in Germany and yes, Arsenal is a fantastic club.”

The 26 year old also knows few others in the current squad who used to play in Bundesliga, like Granit Xhaka, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The new signing also said that he is looking forward to play along with Aubameyang, after playing against him in Germany.

“Yes, it will be special because in the past I’ve always played against him,” he added. “He’s so fast and as a goalkeeper you have to respect his qualities, his speed. Now we’ll train together and I hope he’ll score for us.”

With the arrival of the German, it is almost certain that at least one of the current Gunners keepers will be on their way. Petr Cech is tipped to leave the Gunners but Colombian keeper David Ospina is most likely to leave the Emirates. Arsenal have already roped in Stephan Lichtsteiner for free while deals for another Bundesliga star Sokratis Papastathopoulus is poised to join the Gunners.
