The inaugural weekend of the FIFA World Cup 2018 will be commencing with a cracking tie between African giants Egypt and the South American side Uruguay. Egypt are back in the main stage of the global glory after some 28 years while the Uruguyans were 4th in the 2010 World Cup.
Match Details: Egypt vs Uruguay
Date: 15th June
Time: 17.30 IST (17.00 Local)
Venue: Central Park, Yekaterinburg
Referee: Not yet named
The Egypt team are still looking on their talisman Mohammed Salah, who is expected not to start against the Uruguayans on Friday. Among others, the Egypt coach Hector Cuper is expected to go with a two men defensive midfield line which will include Arsenal man Mohamed Elneny. Marwan Mohsen is expected to lead the line for the African side while Essam El Hadary will start on goal.
For the Latin American side, it will be a huge call for their manager to select who to lead the line, with PSG striker Edinson Cavani is expected to share his duty with Luis Suarez. The defensive pair of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez will be crucial to nullify the Africans threat from counter attacks, while in midfield, Arsenal bound Lucas Torreira can start ahead of Vecino.
Uruguay have been twice World Cup Champions but the last was back in 1950, La Celeste have done well in recent years but they haven’t had many good memories in the last world cup, where they exited from the last 16 stage. They have a top squad this year who can really thrive in the big stage, and against Egypt it will be a test of their temperament.
For the Egyptians, it is a comeback to the big stage after 28 years, and their hopes will largely be relying on Mohammed Salah’s performance, who had a staggering season with Liverpool last term and fired them to the Champions League final. Salah’s injury will definitely curtail their chances but the others will still have to put up a fight against the mighty South Americans.
Predicted Line Up:
The match will be broadcast live on Sony TEN and Sony ESPN from 17.30 IST on Friday for the Indian viewers.
