Manchester United are still mulling over their options for a high quality marquee signing this season. Meanwhile, the Red Devils have completed a deal with a talented youngster of their own.
The officials have confirmed that young attacker D’Mani Mellor has signed a professional contract with the club.
Mellor was a valuable member of the Manchester United under-18 squad last season. A homegrown product of the Old Trafford side, he has been with the junior team for quite some time now and is well-versed with the United culture.
The 18 year old player is primarily an attacker. He can play as a number 10 or in a wider role. An energetic and agile forward by nature, Mellor likes to press from the front. During the last season, he scored five goals from 20 outings, 13 of which came as a substitute. The teenager’s performance for Kieran McKenna’s Premier League North winners was in fact very promising and that has prompted Manchester United officials to offer him professional terms.
D’Mani Mellor’s first goal for the Under-18 side came in an exciting 4-3 Premier League Cup win over Arsenal at The Cliff. Previously, he scored in a friendly against MSK Zilina in Slovakia in 2016. The forward also managed to net a strike against arch-rivals Liverpool last December. Further, he has experience of playing in the Marveld tournament and other junior competitions. It goes without saying that the Mancunian has shown the promises to be a valuable member of the squad in future.
Manchester United have always been regarded as one of the major clubs who promote young talents. Their academy is one of the bests in the country and can boast of players like Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, to name a few.
Over the last few years, the management have agreed deals with a few talented youngsters, some of whom have even made it to the senior side as well. Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard have been phenomenal in the top flight and have also earned calls for the national side.
Can D’Mani Mellor be another star for the Reds of Manchester? The fans will be eagerly waiting for that.
