Jose Mourinho is ready to go big in the transfer market, once again. After being linked to a few big names already, Manchester United are now rumoured to be going after Paris Saint Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

In recent news, it was reported that the Old Trafford side are immensely interested in signing Sergej Milinković-Savić who has been spectacular for Lazio during the last campaign. In fact, sources suggested that a deal was ready to go through between Manchester United and the Serbian. However, there has been a significant development.

It appears now that the Italian side are not going to let Milinković-Savić for cheap, the valuation being set at £80m. But, according to MEN Sport, United consider this price to be ‘too high’ for the midfielder. Neither Lazio nor Savić’s agent is interested to negotiate though. “We agree that he’s one of the greatest products in European football in the last season,” Mateja Kezman, the player’s agent said last week. “I don’t want to talk about numbers, but it’s clear the numbers are going up all the time.”

Under these circumstances, United have decided to turn to someone who has been a proven star in big stages. And that is why Verratti has emerged as the top summer target for Mourinho’s side.

During the last summer transfer window, United were quoted £100m for the PSG midfielder. It is understood that a similar fee would be needed to sign the 25-year-old now.

Why will it be a good signing for Manchester United?

The 25-year-old has been playing for PSG since 2012. He has already got five Ligue 1 titles to his name, and has got plethora of experiences in UEFA Champions League too. Naturally, Verratti’s inclusion will be great for the club’s pursuit of success in both Premier League and the European extravaganza.

The Italian star is quick, agile and technically gifted. His dribbling skills and ability to retain possession in tight spaces help him hold on to the ball under pressure. Mourinho surely needs someone who can do this with ease. Moreover, Verratti’s creativity and extraordinary vision will be useful to send delicate long balls and crosses to Lukaku and Sanchez. Should this deal go through, it can be said without an iota of doubt that the PSG man, along with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, will form one of the most formidable midfield in the world.

Let us now take a look at some skills from the Manchester United target:
