Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea is still behind the clouds, but that is not stopping the club from going big in the transfer market. They are now interested in signing someone who has been attracting attention from both finalists of UEFA Champions League 2017/18.
Liverpool have already started shopping for the next season. Right after the unfortunate loss at the UEFA Champions League final, the Reds signed a great deal with AS Monaco star Fabinho. They are also interested in signing a new goalkeeper, and AS Roma star Alisson Becker has been the top target for Jurgen Klopp. However, according to latest reports, Chelsea have joined the race and they might beat Liverpool to sign the Brazilian.
Not only Liverpool, but their Champions League final opponents Real Madrid also expressed their interest in getting Alisson who was spectacular last season.
However, as it stands now, Chelsea might just become the frontrunners to sign the reliable goalkeeper. Calcio Mercato confirmed that the Blues’s current number one Thibaut Courtois is stalling on a new contract. Naturally, the management will look forward to cash in on the Belgian, rather than seeing him go for free next season. And if that happens, Alisson Becker is the main man Chelsea will go all out for.
An immediate consequence of this possible deal will be that both Madrid and Liverpool will turn their attention to Courtois who is a great player in his own rights.
However, one thing going against Chelsea will be the absence of Champions League football. Antonio Conte’s side failed to finish in top four and will take part in the Europa League next year. If Alisson is ready to leave Rome, he might not want to miss the chance of getting a Champions League medal, something he could not get this year. This issue will surely work in favour of Liverpool and Real Madrid, both sides being determined to fight for the glory one more time in the upcoming campaign.
Alisson was a standout performer this year. The custodian’s magnificent show at the Italian capital helped Roma reach the semifinals of the European extravaganza. On the other hand, albeit his side finished third in the Serie A table, they conceded second lowest (28 goals from 38 games), thanks to Alisson’s reliable gloves. His fabulous show is also going to help him edge Ederson to become Brazil’s number one in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
