The summer transfer bell has already started to ring and Manchester United would be looking forward to fulfill their needs before the next season kicks off.
Over the years United have prioritised marquee signings with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba arriving at the club. However, it seems that the transfer policy needs to be rectified, should they want to dream big again.
There had been a sense of optimism at the start of the last season but hopes got dashed as United finished 19 points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League. They also bowed out of the Champions League at the hand of the Sevilla and couldn’t get past Chelsea as the Blues edged them out in a heavily contested FA Cup final.
With the summer transfer window opening early unlike other seasons United will have the chance to plug the weak link. A number of players are expected to leave the club as Mourinho is trying to clear the deadwood to bring some fresh faces as he is gearing up for the challenge next season.
The defence looked pretty strong as the Red Devils had conceded only 28 goals but Mourinho needs to pull the string this time and at least a central defender is expected at the Theatre of Dreams.
The other positions which raised questions are fullbacks and midfield. Antonio Valencia looked clueless at times and United needs to energise the right flank. With Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez vying for a position on the left side United are considering to bring a right sided attacker with Gareth Bale being one of the choices.
However, when it comes to signing someone, United should opt for more effective names. Gareth Bale definitely has the skill-set to don the red colour but United will have to spend an enormous sum to bring him back to England which doesn’t sound good.
On the other hand, there has been a scarcity of academy talents in the last few years. Marcus Rashford has been the flagbearer for the Red Devils and Scott McTominay has shown that he has the quality to justify the manager’s faith in him. So United need to promote more and more talents to the senior team to give the youngsters a chance to shine in their own field.
The club have been going through a transition period since Sir Alex Ferguson retired but it definitely has the required potential to bring back the glory days.
