Arsenal appointed Unai Emery as their head coach, and now he has got his first recruit for the next season.
After finishing sixth in the previous season, the Gunners need to step up their game in the next. Emery has already indicated during his first press conference that he would love to follow the footsteps and legacy of his predecessor Arsene Wenger. That has given a lot of hope for the Arsenal fans around the globe, and now, this confirmed deal will be something to rejoice for the supporters.
According to recent reports, Unai Emery is set to bring his own backroom stuff, and Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeping coach Javi Garcia is the first one to strike a deal with the Emirates side.
Garcia is highly rated in the French club and he has been working with the current Arsenal boss for quite a few years. The duo’s stint together first happened in Sevilla and then continued to PSG.
Garcia is regarded as the man responsible for Alphonse Areola’s inspiring performances for the French club in recent times. The custodian managed to secure his place as the first choice goalkeeper for PSG, and produced some magnificent saves of late. He is now chased by many top European clubs and Garcia should get considerable credits for that.
Meanwhile, Emery is also looking forward to strengthen his new squad with young talents from across Europe. After getting a goalkeeping coach, he wants to sign a new goalkeeper who will be better than an aging Petr Cech or an out of form David Ospina. And for that, Sevilla player Sergio Rico is getting the attention from the Arsenal boss.
Rico played under Unai Emery when the latter was in charge of the Sevilla. Previously, it was believed that the English giants are after Bayer Leverkusen player Bernardo Leno. But, recent upturns suggest that Rico is the favourite to sign a contract with Arsenal. The 24 year old is apparently ready to leave his home country, and should that happen, the Gunners will be happy to see him at the Emirates.
