A disappointing end to a jubilant Champions League campaign disheartened Liverpool fans all over the globe, but, at the same time, they were upbeat about a blistering 2018-19 campaign where the once doubters, now believers, have already started viewing themselves as soon to be achievers under the charismatic Jurgen Klopp.
It was promised to be a busy summer in terms of incomings at Liverpool. And the grief-stricken Redmen received a massive encouragement just a while back following the transfer news of Fabinho.
The AS Monaco’s midfield sensation is set to become the Reds’ first summer signing as a replacement of departing Emre Can. The Brazilian has been a prominent name in an impressive Monaco squad and also played a massive part in their League triumph in 2017.
Although started his career as a right-back, Fabinho later established himself in a defensive midfield role and his holding, ball control, down the middle runs, distribution and physicality will introduce massive strength in Liverpool midfield.
A fee of around €50m (including add-ons) has reportedly been agreed for the Selecao star who has won 100+ tackles and been directly involved in 10 goals in each of the last three campaigns in Ligue 1. An official announcement from Liverpool is expected tomorrow but the news accelerated rather quicker than expected.
Fabinho was linked to a move to Manchester United last summer, but several high-profile exits saw the Monaco gaffer Leonardo Jardim blocking the transfer. Liverpool were primarily after Napoli’s Jorginho but accepted defeat to Manchester City who is reportedly close to agreeing to a deal for the Brazil-born Azzurri international. However, the Reds have done a tremendous business in such an inflated market and the early intent exhibits their statement towards a title challenge in the upcoming campaign. Klopp reiterated his concern about the squad depth, and he will now have enough ammo in his armory to lock horns with the Manchester giants for the Premier League glory.
