Only five matches are left in the group stage, and the Indian Premier League 2018 are taking a re progressing nicely to the playoffs. At this moment, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings are confirmed a spot in the playoffs, while Delhi Daredevils are not in contention at all. And on Friday night, bottom-placed Delhi will play second boys Chennai to restore some glory in an otherwise unsuccessful season.
Delhi played their last game against another struggling side of this year’s IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore. Batting first, banking on decent contributions from the top order, the Daredevils raised 181 on the board. But, that was not enough in front of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. After the opening pair of Parthiv Patel and Moeen Ali departed within three overs, the destructive duo took matters in their own hands. Their partnership of 118 was enough to ensure victory, and de Villiers eventually saw it through with a magnificent 72.
Chennai Super Kings, on the contrary, finished their last game on the right side of the results. They were playing against the toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad who set a target of 180. And then, the openers delivered for Chennai. Shane Watson scored 57 in the magnificent opening partnership of 134, while Ambati Rayudu continued his journey to score his first ton of the season and to ensure an easy victory for his team.
The hosts are playing for nothing but glory, and hence, there is a chance of resting some players to give chances to youngsters. In the last match too, we saw three debuts for Delhi, and it is not sure whether a similar thing will be observed on Friday as well.
Chennai, however, will look forward to continue their winning momentum and are expected to field their strongest eleven. Given the slow nature of the Delhi pitch, they might bring in Imran Tahir ahead of David Willey, but other than that, the rest of the team should remain unchanged.
