Victor Lindelof may have had a shaky start to his life at Manchester but he is one of the most in-demand players it seems. Jose Mourinho splashed a whopping £31m for the Swedish defender in the last summer but the player hasn’t been able to justify his price tag fully although he produced some eye-catching performance off late.
According to reports, Wolves are mulling options to take the player on loan for the upcoming season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side dominated the Championship and topped the English second tier to become the first side to get an automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Santo would want to have some smart addition to his team and Lindelof seems to be a good fit. The defender had to wait for a very long time before Mourinho entrusted him with some quality game time of late.
Defence has been the pillar of success for United this season as Mourinho’s side conceded only 28 goals during the whole Premier League campaign. But the credit goes to Phil Jones and Chris Smalling mostly as the duo formed a rock solid partnership in the heart of the United backline.
Agent Jorge Mendes has a very cordial relationship with the owner of the Wolves and had also advised during the time of the takeover by Fosun International. Besides, Mendes also represents Mourinho and Santo and could play a vital role, should this deal go through.
Wolves digested 39 goals in the English second tier and gaffer Santo would be hoping to beef up his defence as they are going to launch their Premier League journey next season. Having managed Lindelof at Benfica the manager is well aware of his potential and he could be one of his many signings.
Mourinho is destined to sign at least one defender in the summer and that leaves Lindelof in a bit of bother. Wolves are pretty confident of reaching a deal but everything is depending on how Mourinho fares in the summer transfer market.
