Premier League : Team of the week from the penultimate game week

Leroy Sane was one star performer of this week.

Six Premier League games took place this week, before all teams get ready to engage themselves for the final action in the British top flight this season.

During these midweek fixtures, champions Manchester City notched another win and made new records in terms of goals scored in one season. Chelsea lost points against Huddersfield who saved their Premier League spot at the expense of West Bromwich Albion. Earlier, Swansea City lost narrowly to Southampton who have more-or-less ensured safety. Meanwhile, Tottenham got a welcome win against Newcastle and that would make it difficult for Chelsea to finish in the top four. Finally, Manchester United drew with West Ham and that would give them a second-place finish to an otherwise dull season.

Let us now take a look at the best performers of these six Premier League games. While choosing this team, we employ a 3-4-3 formation.

Southampton and Huddersfield got season-saving points this week, and needless to say, their goalkeepers had their parts to play. We, however, want to go with Adrian who was fabulous against United. It was a hard choice between Jonas Lossl and Adrian, but the West Ham custodian looked more confident between the sticks.

This week’s Premier League best eleven is made with a three-back system, and our picks are Jan Vertonghen, Terence Kongolo and Wesley Hoedt. The Tottenham defender made 12 clearances and also took two shots at the opponent goal. He was surely one of the star performers that day. Kongolo and Hoedt, on the other hand, helped their teams get all important points for the Premier League survivals. Both were extraordinary in the central defense, making as many as 16 important clearances.

In the center of the pitch, we start with Oriol Romeu and Aaron Mooy. The Saints midfielder was not only very good defensively (2 match-saving tackles, 1 interception, 9 clearances) but he also provided four key passes to the attackers. Mooy, on the other hand, was the architect behind Huddersfield’s solitary goal against Chelsea. His inch-perfect pass eventually provided the Terriers with the point they desperately needed. He also recorded 7 crucial tackles and 3 important clearances.

These two will be joined by Marcos Alonso and Danilo in the wingback roles. The Chelsea side-back performed well throughout the match. He was good in defense and in transition, and his perseverance eventually helped him get the equalizer for the Blues. Danilo also found his name in the scorebook, after starting the proceedings for Manchester City against Brighton & Hove Albion. He also had good defensive numbers (4 interceptions, 4 tackles and 1 clearance) in this fixture.

On the left flank, we have Leroy Sane who is one of the most influential young performers this season. Against the Seagulls, the German assisted all three goals and was most definitely the best performer of this Premier League game week. In total, he sent five key-passes and himself took 1 shot on target. He also provided necessary defensive supports to his teammates, whenever needed.

The other two spots in our eleven are going to be occupied by two Leicester City players, who made it possible for their team to get a convincing 3-1 victory against Arsenal. Kelechi Iheanacho (6 shots, 2 successful dribbles) and Riyad Mahrez (3 shots, 4 key passes, 3 successful dribbles) were the main forces behind their team’s victory.

Hence, finally, this is how the team of the week look like:
