The last week has been an extremely exciting one in the VIVO IPL with a few of the bottom placed teams defeating the teams placed in the top four. At this moment, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings are almost assured of the top two spots in the table but the other two positions are definitely up for grabs.
Although last week’s upsets have not affected the points table much, it is surely going to change in the upcoming week with almost four teams fighting for the coveted third and fourth positions. And this upcoming fixture is surely one of those crucial matches to come.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore team will be hoping to stage an upset on Monday when they go head-head against the mighty Sunrisers Hyderabad team. RCB have struggled to find the right combination throughout this tournament and with the likes of Kohli, Devillers not in form, Bangalore will definitely have to play out of their skins in Monday’s match in order to keep their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive.
The Hyderabad team will take on the Bangalore side for the very first time in this year’s tournament. On head-head SRH has won more number of matches than RCB. Out of the 15 matches that have been played between the two sides, SRH has won 10 of them. Today’s match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium and the fact that SRH has won 4 out of 5 games that they have played against RCB at this ground definitely will give the Hyderabad team a lot of boost.
Hyderabad will be extremely confident as they are coming at the back of a thumping victory over Delhi Daredevils. The vulnerable middle order of the SRH team too seemed competent enough to win them crucial matches especially after the way Yusuf Pathan played against DD. The bowlers clearly looked in their elements with Rashid Khan being the pick of the bowlers against Delhi Daredevils. The way Prithvi Shaw started off in that match against SRH, everyone thought DD will get at least 180 on the board but thanks to Rashid Khan’s brilliant spell Hyderabad restricted DD to just 163/5.
RCB on the other hand have a lot to think about especially after their last game against CSK. The RCB batting looked completely out of sorts with the likes of Kohli, McCullum and Devillers not even scoring in double figures. Parthiv’s form at the top of the order was a plus for RCB from the previous encounter. Umesh Yadav and Murugn Ashwin’s bowling form would also have given Kohli some respite.
Team News and Strategies:
The Bangalore team in all probabilities will play the same lineup against SRH that played against CSK. RCB will be hoping that Parthiv continues his great form and Baz and Parthiv give them a flying start. Virat’s form has been a concern for RCB and the fans will be hoping that their skipper comes good in this crucial match. Kohli likes challenges and with RCB’s back to the wall there is a possibility that he will come out all guns blazing. Virat too will be hoping to remove Williamson and Pathan early because both of them have been in nice form. Expect pacers Southee and Siraj need to test Yusuf with short pitch stuff.
SRH will also not be looking to make any changes to a rather settled side. Williamson once again will be key to SRH’s batting as he will look to hold on to his wicket from one end while the hitters smash the opposition bowling from the other end. It is almost certain that Rashid Khan will be applied against the likes of Devillers and Kohli as both of them has struggled against spin in this tournament so far.
