The Sunrisers Hyderabad team will be looking to retain their top spot in the points table when they take on a revived Delhi side in Saturday’s second clash. Delhi, on the other hand, will be looking to earn 2 crucial points and move up to the 5th spot in the points table. With both teams clearly having incentives to win this match, this encounter definitely promises to be a thriller.
Both sides will be playing against each other for the very first time in this year’s VIVO IPL. Previously these two teams have met 10 times with Hyderabad winning 6 of those encounters. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, these teams have faced off against each other thrice with SRH winning twice. Clearly, SRH has an edge over DD in this all-important clash if we are to go with the previous years’ records.
SRH has been in tremendous form in this year’s IPL especially with three consecutive wins under their belt in the last three matches. Sunrisers bowling has been excellent throughout this tournament and defending low scores has become a habit for them. Their bowling won them their previous game too against the Rajasthan Royals. Riding Alex Hales’s 45(39) and skipper Williamson’s 63(43), SRH posted a somewhat respectable total of 151/7 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, despite Rahane’s patient 63 not out, RR lost the match by 11 runs. Sandeep Sharma, Siddharth Kaul and Rashid Khan were brilliant with the ball as they picked up 4 crucial wickets between themselves without giving away many runs.
A resurgent Delhi Daredevils just edged past Rajasthan in their previous rain-curtailed encounter. Winning the toss RR had sent in Delhi to bat first in 18-overs a side match. Delhi began aggressively and despite losing Colin Munro early, the Indian youngsters Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant notched up quickfire fifties and guided DD to 196/6 in 17.1 overs before rain again played spoilsport. After this rain interruption the match got further curtailed to 12-overs and RR was set a target of 151 runs in those 12-overs. Despite Jos Buttler’s brilliance with the bat RR just fell short by 4 runs giving Delhi a crucial victory.
Team News and Strategies:
With SRH being a side that defends targets well DD will be hoping to win the toss and bat first and put up a score in excess of 165-170 and then test the SRH batting order. With Shikhar Dhawan too out of form, SRH will be again banking on Alex Hales and Kane Williamson to come up with the goods. Knowing the kind of captain that Williamson is we don’t expect any change in the SRH batting order despite the failure of the middle and lower-middle order. Hyderabad will be again hoping that their bowlers come good one more time and restrict the Delhi side to a small total. Just like their previous game we might just see Shakib opening the bowling along with Sandeep Sharma just to check Prithvi Shaw’s technique against a left arm off-spinner. Sandeep Sharma with his swing will be crucial against the hard-hitting Colin Munro. Expect Rashid Khan to be introduced early on in order to get the wickets of Shaw and Iyer. The fact that Pant too has been dismissed cheaply by Mujeeb Ur Rahman might just increase the probability of Rashid Khan being introduced early.
Delhi will definitely be looking to bat first and get runs on the board against SRH and then put their middle-order and lower-middle order under pressure. With Trent Boult swinging the ball nicely upfront, DD will be hoping that he knocks over at least one of Hales and Williamson in order to expose the fragile middle-order of the SRH side. Also, there’s a chance that Rishabh Pant comes out to bat at number 3 today given that both Shakib Al Hasan and Rashid Khan will be turning the ball into the left-hander. The Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer will be hoping to carry on with his good form with the bat and provide that stability to the Delhi lower-middle order that it needs.
