UEFA Europa League: Atlético Madrid vs Arsenal Preview, Team News, Betting Odds and TV Guide

Arsenal and Atlético Madrid drew their first leg fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal will be up against the former La Liga champions Atlético Madrid on Thursday (Friday night IST) in what could be Arsene Wenger’s last big game (as well as European game) as Arsenal manager.

The North London side will be up against their biggest challenge of the season when they make the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano for the second leg of the second semi final. With top 4 hopes done and dusted, winning the Europa League remains Arsenal’s only great hope of returning to next year’s UEFA Champions League.

Atlético Madrid vs Arsenal Preview:

The first leg between the two sides ended 1 a piece after Antoine Griezmann cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette’s strike late in the game. After conceding the crucial away goal last week, the onus will be on the 13-times English champions to score.

Atlético on the other hand will be mightily pleased to have that crucial away goal and will look to their strong back-line to not concede at home. They also have the able fire power upfront to score plenty. The 2-times Europa League champions will undoubtedly be the favourites to progress to the finals against the English heavyweights. Nonetheless, there’s a mouth watering clash on the cards for the neutrals.

Atlético Madrid vs Arsenal Team News:

The hosts will continue to be without the service of their veteran right back Juanfran Torres, who is still nursing a thigh injury and is likely to be fit in time for the Europa League final on 16th May if the Rojiblancos reach there. Right back Sime Vrsaljko will be out after being sent off in the previous match. Atlético will otherwise be fielding a full strength team.

The visitors however have a handful of injury problems to deal with as attacker Alex Iwobi, midfielder Mohamed Elneny and left back Sead Kolasinac will all be missing the crucial second leg of the tie. Veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla continues to be out for the season.
