Monday night might prove to be very crucial for Delhi Daredevils, as they are ready to face Chennai Super Kings, in-form team of the Indian Premier League 2018. A win from this fixture can realistically help Daredevils move up to the fifth spot, should other results go in favour of them on Sunday.
Under the leadership of new skipper Shreyas Iyer, Daredevils have got back to winning ways. They have shuffled their squad in the last match, and that has helped them with the results. Against Chennai, however, they will have to provide their best, for MS Dhoni and co can turn any result to their favour with exquisite performance from one or other.
Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu played beautifully for Chennai in their last outing against Mumbai Indians. Thanks to the duo, they put 169 runs on the board. But, Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma delivered during the chase, and that provided Mumbai their second win of the season. The Super Kings will not want a repeat of that bowling performance against a hard-hitting Delhi Daredevils.
The visitors, as already mentioned above, had a fabulous time on Friday night. Batting first, the new captain led from the front with a magnificent 93 not out. Youngster Prithvi Shaw was also brilliant with a 62 in the beginning. These two innings helped Delhi notch 213 runs from 20 overs and the target proved to be a herculean task for Kolkata Knight Riders. Dinesh Karthik’s side could only get 164 and the Daredevils had the much-needed victory to stay afloat for a playoff spot.
Although Chennai lost their last match, chances are slim they will go through major changes. Dhoni prefers to keep an unchanged eleven and this time too, there is not enough reason to shuffle the squad. Barring Sam Billings, the batting has been perfect for them so far. In the bowling department, Deepak Chahar is going to miss next two weeks following his hamstring injury. On the other hand, Lungi Ngidi has joined the squad. With these in mind, Dhoni can bring in Ngidi or David Willey in place of Billings while Murali Vijay might be recalled in place of Chahar.
Delhi Daredevils, on the other hand, would want to consider other options ahead of Liam Plunkett. Their main star Chris Morris is out due to illness. The Englishman has filled in for the last couple of games, but he is nowhere close to Morris’s performance. However, the only alternate being Dan Christian, it is highly likely that Plunkett will get one more chance.
