The summer transfer window is already knocking on the door and like every team, Manchester United are also planning to venture into the transfer market aggressively. In this regard, Luke Shaw is a player who might be replaced at the beginning of the next season.
The Red Devils have not managed to perform the way they would have liked but still, they are on course to feature in the FA Cup final. They secured a convincing victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday at the Wembley Stadium, and will face Chelsea in the final on 19th May.
Jose Mourinho is likely to sanction the departure of a number of players in the summer and Shaw could be one of them. The 22 year old has had a frustrating season as Ashley Young has been preferred on the left side of the defence mostly by the gaffer.
Mourinho has publicly criticised the former Southampton man a number of times and it seems that Shaw is on his way out from Old Trafford. Following his arrival in 2014, the left back was expected to be one of the most encouraging prospects for the Red Devils.
But since his career-threatening injury in 2014, Shaw has been struggling for form and his career has been marred by short time injuries. If he does leave let’s look at three players who would be able to fill in his shoes.
The 20 year old has been linked with the club and is one of the favourites to arrive in the next summer. The left-back has lit up this season for Celtic as he registered three goals and six assists in the Scottish Premiership.
In modern football, the fullbacks need to know the art of attacking and Tierney can definitely push the team forward with his marauding run down the flanks.
The 27 year old’s injury in the last year curtailed his game time and since then he has lost his place to Ben Davies who has been excellent. Despite his limited game time Jose Mourinho is an avid admirer of the player and would love to have him at his disposal.
The Juventus left back is known for his pace and offensive output and could pose a threat to opposition players. Juventus are unlikely to allow him but if United meet their demand it won’t be a problem.
