In Chinnaswamy Stadium, we are expecting a run-fiesta as Chennai Super Kings travel to face a rejuvenated Royal Challengers Bangalore side on Wednesday.
Chennai are at the second spot of the league table, and a win against Virat Kohli’s boys will help them leapfrog Kings XI Punjab to claim the top position. Royal Challengers, on the other hand, returned to winning ways and are slowly trying to make their mark in this year’s competition. With almost half the season gone, a victory over Chennai will surely boost the confidence of the squad and will set them up nicely for the upcoming games.
Rishabh Pant (85 from 48 balls) toyed with the Royal Challengers bowling in the last match and helped Delhi Daredevils reach 174 in 20 overs. However, that is never enough in front of a destructive AB De Villiers. The South African finally got going in this IPL. He was in a fantastic mood that day and scored a quickfire 90 not out, from only 39 deliveries. This onslaught helped Royal Challengers get their second victory from five matches. Once again, the team will look up to Kohli and De Villiers to deliver and help them win against Chennai.
MS Dhoni’s side also notched up three points in their last outing. It was a high-scoring game in Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings ended up being in the right side of the result. Batting first, thanks to half centuries from Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu, the visitors piled up 182. In response, Kane Williamson and Yusuf Pathan tried their best, but eventually, Sunrisers Hyderabad fell short by 4 runs.
Royal Challengers got a welcome win in the last match, and they are expected not to make any change. Although the bowling has not clicked on most of the times, it is likely that Kohli will stick to the current setup, and see for one more game. He does not have major injury concerns as well.
Dhoni, on the other hand, will be finally relieved that all of his main men, including Raina and Faf Du Plessis, are up and running. The latter’s availability has helped them find a better opening pair in Faf and Shane Watson, who has been in exquisite form. That has also pushed Rayudu down in the batting order and the ploy has worked perfectly, as was seen in the last match.
In the bowling department, Chennai players have been leaking runs, but chances are high Dhoni will not reshuffle the winning combination. But he surely has options if he wants to do that. Imran Tahir is available for selection after missing a match due to illness, while Deepak Chahar and Karn Sharma were effective against Sunrisers.
