It has been a mixed season for Arsenal so far. Arsene Wenger’s side are currently sixth in the Premier League table and are 14 points adrift of their North London rival Tottenham Hotspur who are two places above them in the fourth position currently.

Defence has been the main reason behind Arsenal’s erratic season and Wenger wants some heavy improvement in this department next season. According to reports, Arsenal are eyeing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani in the summer to beef up their backline.

Following Leonardo Bonucci’s departure, Rugani had the chance to seal a spot in the Juventus starting lineup. But Medhi Benatia’s brilliant performance in the heart of the Juventus defence has curtailed his game time largely and he has been mostly a bench warmer this season.

Shkodran Mustafi’s performance for the Gunners has been very poor especially he has been severely criticised following his poor performance against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final which Arsenal went on to lose 3-0. Mustafi is tipped to leave the club in the summer as the North London giants are planning an overhaul to rectify their defensive vulnerabilities.

Rugani, 23, is regarded among the top youngest defenders and is also believed to be the future of the Italian national team. Following Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup finals the team is due to undergo a transition process and Rugani is poised to play a big role in this development.

There is still hope for Arsenal supporters as the Gunners are scheduled to face Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semifinal. It would be a big redemption for the North London giant if they manage to repeat the feat of Manchester United who defeated Ajax 2-0 in the Europa League final last season to seal a spot in the Champions League.

Rugani has a very encouraging cv and should he arrive at the Emirates it could be a huge coup for Arsenal. The player is a clean tackler of the ball and would be a perfect fit in the three-man defence system.

Max Allegri would be very reluctant to let go one of his prized assets but the lure of playing in the most competitive league in the world might just prove to be enough for him.
