Liverpool’s goalkeeping problem might come to an end soon. The English giants are reportedly preparing an offer to bring Barcelona keeper Jasper Cillessen to Anfield next season.
The Dutch international has been at Barcelona since his arrival in 2016 but has barely featured for the Catalans. With Marc Andre Ter Stegen currently being the number one choice for the Spanish club, Cillessen hasn’t had the chance to showcase his talent in the goal.
But now it seems his days are numbered at the club as Liverpool who are in the dire need of a keeper are looking to bring a new keeper in the next season. Jurgen Klopp has opted to start Loris Karius in recent times while the gaffer also has the luxury to use Simon Mignolet if a situation arises.
However, despite having them Klopp is in the search for a proper shot stopper and Cillessen is a very viable option for the German gaffer. The 28 year old, who is due to turn a year older in this month is the number one choice for Netherland and would be looking for some more game time and Liverpool can definitely offer him that.
The Reds are in a comfortable position in the Premier League and will be looking to make it to the final of the UEFA Champions League when they take on AS Roma in the semifinal.
Liverpool will have their task cut out as both Napoli and Atletico Madrid are also courting the player very closely.
But Klopp has been in the market for a new keeper and has also shortlisted some names including Roma keeper Alisson and Stoke City keeper Jack Butland. A fee of €60m (£51.9m) which is reported to be his release clause should be enough to tempt the player all the way to England.
Should Cillessen move to England It would be a boost for both Liverpool and the player.
