Game week 34 of the Premier League 2017/18 has finished, and we have out new Champions of England. West Bromwich caused an upset to defeat Manchester United, and it meant that no one can mathematically leapfrog Manchester City this season.
While Pep Guardiola is getting prepare to officially lift the trophy, his second of the season, let us take a look at the best lineup of the last game week.
West Bromwich custodian Ben Foster deserves this spot without a doubt. The Baggies goalkeeper managed to maintain a clean sheet against the second boys of the league, Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. Despite continuous efforts of Romelu Lukaku and co, the Red Devils could not get past Foster and consequently they had to suffer a surprise defeat on Sunday. This result also ensured the Premier League title for Manchester City.
Burnley’s match-winner Kevin Long is our first man in the center of the defense. He not only showed extraordinary defensive prowess against Leicester City, but he also scored an important goal that proved to be the difference in the end. His partner here is going to be Matthias Jorgensen from Huddersfield Town. Jorgensen led from the front to clinch a 1-0 victory against Watford. He also played a pivotal role in that solitary goal of his team.
Jorgensen’s teammate Terence Kongolo will be slotted in the left back position. His stats (four important interceptions, four match-saving clearances and two tackles) show his important in the shutout. He was also good going forward. Then, in the right flank, we include Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool youngster has been a revelation this season and last game week was no exception. He was brilliant both defensively and in transition. He even recorded an assist to help Mo Salah net his 40th goal of the season.
Crystal palace duo Luka Milijoveic and Wilfred Zaha are in our best eleven of last game week. The former continued his good form and recorded two assists on Saturday. On the other hand, Zaha, playing in an advanced role from the left, scored twice. Their contributions were good enough to defeat Brighton 3-2 and put them in a firm position to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
Other two players in the middle of the pitch are going to be Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Raheem Sterling. Liverpool’s new signing was very good in his role. He made five great interceptions throughout the match, provided three key passes to his teammates and took five shots himself. It was an all-round performance from the former Arsenal man. On the other hand, right winger Sterling was amazing in the best fixture of the last game week. Tottenham defenders had no answer to his pace and skills, and the previous Liverpool star netted his 17th Premier League goal of the campaign.
Our striking partners are going to be Olivier Giroud and Ayoze Perez. Chelsea’s new recruit scored twice after coming off the bench in the last game week and helped his team turn the match to their favour. Antonio Conte brought him when Chelsea were trailing and Giroud did not disappoint. He started the scoring for the Blues and towards the fag end, scored the winner as well. Thanks to him, Chelsea got three points and are still in the run for a top four finish.
Perez, on the other hand, was instrumental in Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal. The forward scored and assisted and ensured full points for the Magpies. With this win, Newcastle have moved to the top half of the league table and are expected to finish the season on a high note.
