IPL 2018: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Daredevils preview and possible lineups

Eden Gardens will observe the return of their former captain in Delhi colours.

This IPL fixture will mark the return of Gautam Gambhir to Eden Gardens, but on different colours. The Delhi Daredevils skipper used to be the fan favourite at the ground. However, this time, Kolkata will root for his failure.

In this campaign, Gambhir’s Daredevils have not been at their best and the same can be said about their opponents, led by first time captain Dinesh Karthik. Both sides have got solitary win from three matches, and a victory in this encounter can bring one side into the top four of the league log.

Last matches:

The two teams have had different outcomes in the last outings. Delhi managed to sneak a last-ball victory against Mumbai Indians, thanks to an onslaught from Jason Roy. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders slumped to a defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kane Williamson’s team were hot enough for Kolkata and it was a easy victory for them.

Team news:

The home side are unfortunate to miss their youngster Kamalesh Nagarkoti who has been ruled out for the entire season due to injury. Karnataka seamer Prasidh Krishna has been included in his place. While there is little chance to make any change to the starting lineup, onus will be on Karthik to prove himself.

In the last match, Kolkata included talented Indian youngster Shivam Mavi, but Karthik could not muster the courage to utilize his abilities in the beginning overs. The same can be said about Shubman Gill who, despite being an able middle-order batsman, came to the crease at number 7, with only 6 overs to spare. In the game against Chennai too, it was a poor decision to use Vinay Kumar in the last over and MS Dhoni and co managed to snatch an impossible win because of that. These decisions have drawn severe criticism from the pundits, and the Knight Riders captain will be under the microscope in this crunch game.

Delhi Daredevils, on the other hand, have a more serious worry. Their star allrounder Chris Morris was dropped in the last match and reports suggested that he was ill. It is not yet sure whether he is fit to take the field tomorrow. If not, once again, Gambhir will have to depend on Dan Christian to provide necessary breakthroughs.
