Liverpool, currently third in Premier League standings, came back strong from a disappointing defeat to Manchester United and registered a thumping 5-0 win over Watford prior to the international break.
But the Reds will have another tough away outing this Saturday lunchtime when they will travel to Selhurst Park to contest Crystal Palace who are fighting for their survival and have been a ‘bogey’ side for Klopp since his arrival in English football.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Injuries and Suspensions:
The Eagles have a number of significant injury absentees. Bakary Sako, Scott Dann, and Jason Puncheon are ruled out for the campaign whereas Connor Wickham, Julian Speroni, Alexander Sorloth, Joel Ward, James Tomkins and Jeffrey Schlupp will remain sidelined during the weekend tie. However, star attacker Wilfried Zaha might hand them a major injury boost as he is getting back to his fitness and might be declared fit for the Liverpool game.
Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez for next few weeks as he suffered an ankle injury while featuring for the three lions against the Netherlands. Andrew Robertson had a knock while featuring for Scotland and will be assessed before the clash. But Emre Can and Dejan Lovren are back in team training and likely to be fit for the weekend trip.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Probable Lineups :
Subs: Diego Cavalieri, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Jairo Riedwald, Yohan Cabaye, Jaroslaw Jach, Lee Chung-yong, Erdal Rakip.
Subs: Simon Mignolet, Dejan Lovren, James Milner, Ragnar Klavan, Danny Ings, Adam Lallana, Dominic Solanke.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Last Meeting:
Their last meeting at Selhurst Park ended in a six-goal thriller which Liverpool won by 4-2. Emre Can grabbed an early lead which was canceled out by James McArthur. Dejan Lovren restored the lead for the Reds which was again compensated by McArthur minutes later. Joel Matip then notched one seconds before the half-time break and a second-half goal from Roberto Firmino sealed the deal for the Merseyside.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Key Players:
The Eagles will be relying on their front trio of Wilfried Zaha, Andros Townsend and Christian Benteke – specifically the big Belgian who had one forgettable campaign at Liverpool but haunted the Reds persistently while featuring against them. Luka Milivojevic is in fine form too and the gaffer Roy Hodgson will be banking on the midfielder to keep up his good work against the ‘Top four’ aspirants. All the eyes, however, will be on ex-Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho who will feature against the Reds for the first time since his permanent move back in summer.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have a lethal front trio comprising of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and red-hot Egyptian Mohamed Salah who has already notched 28 times in the league netting four against Watford prior to the break. Jurgen Klopp will rely on his attackers to grind out the result and strengthen their stance in the ‘top four’ chase.
