Jose Mourinho has openly criticized Luke Shaw for his underperformance and is likely to offload him in summer.

Jose Mourinho had an unimpressive Premier League campaign last year in his debut spell with Manchester United but handed them a couple of titles in form of Europa League and the domestic League Cup.

This season, however, was supposed to be a more affluent one with greater glories particularly after a luxurious summer transfer window in terms of spending. But the Red Devils have failed to match those expectations and the Emirates FA Cup remains the only title hope for them. They have given up on Premier League title race months back to neighbors Manchester City, were knocked out by La Liga outfit Sevilla from their Champions League Round of 16 tie, also suffered a humiliating defeat to Championship side Bristol City to surrender in League Cup. The Portuguese tactician, however, has opened up about his discontent with a number of his stars whom he is now willing to offload prior to the upcoming campaign.

Luke Shaw, the young English left-back, is the one who is likely to be shown the door along with Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, Chris Smalling, Ander Herrera and Andreas Pereira. The future of Juan Mata and Anthony Martial seems to be uncertain too with Mourinho plotting a revamp and rebuilding with fresh recruits. He is set to lose out Marouane Fellaini who has rejected contract extension offers and set to depart on a Bosman at the end of the campaign. The egress of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and retirement of Michael Carrick will further shallow his team’s core strength.

Shaw, now 22, was a high-profile recruit from Southampton back in 2014. The prodigy, however, has failed to justify the hype so far as injuries hindered his career growth throughout. Mourinho seems to have lost his patience as well and preferred Ashley Young in a makeshift left-back role all season. The gaffer thus will be rooting for another hefty war chest to reconstruct the squad and reclaim the Premier League throne after years of despair.
