While recently speaking with Sport Voetbal Magazine, AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan revealed the reason on why he rejected a transfer move to Premier League club Chelsea FC.
29-year-old Belgium international Radja Nainggolan reportedly had talks with former Premier League champions Chelsea FC in order to secure a move to the West London club, shortly after Italian manager Antonio Conte took over the reins back in 2016.
Nainggolan, who was once again heavily linked with The Blues this past summer, has instead recently opted to sign a new contract at the Stadio Olimpico during last July and currently has no plans of leaving the Italian capital for Stamford Bridge anytime in the near future.
“I could have gone to Chelsea and many other clubs, but starting something new when you are 29, 29, in a new culture, another lifestyle, that’s not for me.”– Nainggolan stated.
The Belgian International added that he rather prefers to stay where he feels good and claimed that if money was the only motivation in this game, then he would have already changed numerous clubs by now, in order to raise his salary, however, his first priority is to live well.
Additionally, Nainggolan said, living well and playing happily is his first priority and he has both of these things in Roma, as he added that everything is perfect for him in the capital of Italy and his family is also very happy in Rome.
Furthermore, the 29-year-old said that he is one of the most liked players in the club today and currently has got many supporters behind him, who have shown him the respect for the dedication he has shown on the field.
Lastly, Nainggolan also stated that he has learned to become a ‘man’ in Italy, after growing up and spending his childhood in Antwerp and as of right now, the former Cagliari player also sees himself living in Rome in the later life and eventually become a club legend at AS Roma.
