Arsenal, fresh from their Wembley wound, meet Manchester City again and this time in the Premier League on Thursday at the Emirates.
Injury and Team News:
Alexandre Lacazette and Santi Cazorla are long term absentees for the Gunners while Nacho Monreal is out with an inflamed disc of the back. Everyone else is fit to play and Petr Cech is expected to come back in the goal. It is to be seen who plays in the left back as Kolasinac and Maitland-Niles are the contenders. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang will lead the line and an out of form Welbeck may well be on the left wing.
For the Cityzens, Fernandinho is out after suffering a hamstring injury, everyone else is fit to play from Sunday’s thumping win. Ederson Moraes is expected to start in goal while Raheem Sterling may well be up for selection as Pep Guardiola said that the England player is much better. Gabriel Jesus also returned from injury in the Carabao Cup Final, which gives Guardiola another option up front.
Arsenal will be still feeling the humiliation from Sunday, as Wenger’s men were outplayed in every department by Manchester City. The players will have to turn it around and show some fight on Thursday which was definitely lacking at the Wembley. While the top four hope is blurring quickly, Arsenal will have to respond and keep themselves afloat in the quest for the elite. City, on the other hand, are incredibly secure at the top of the table and have now comfortably beaten the Gunners twice this season. They will be eyeing to continue their winning habit but if Arsenal turn out, a competitive match can be expected.
