In the auction they used their Right to Match cards to re buy Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo, while the latter was bought for a hefty 6.40 crore. Among the other big names, Shane Watson was bought and so was Imran Tahir. Off spinner Harbhajan Singh will also wear the Yellow after his 10 years stint with the Mumbai Indians. The fiery South African pacer Lungi Ngidi has also been bought by them which will enrich their pace attack.

Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav and Murali Vijay are among the current Indian internationals who will play for the team for Chennai in the upcoming seasons as well.

Kedar Jadhav was their most expensive buy in the auction as he cost them 7.80 crore, while Stephen Fleming and co. spent 5 crore for leg spinning all rounder Karn Sharma.

Full Squad:

MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, KM Asif, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis, Khsitiz Sharma, Chaintanya Bishnoi, Dhruv Shorey, Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Kanishk Seth, Deepak Chahar, Monu Kumar, Lungi Ngidi, Sam Billings, Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir, Mitchell Santner, Mark Wood, Ravindra Jadeja, N Jagadeesan

One thing that has attracted many expert opinions is the lack of youth in the Chennai Super Kings side. The average age is on the higher side and that can be a problem in the fast and furious version of Cricket.

Dwayne Bravo will play for the Super Kings

But saying that, there are still some terrific outfielders in the side and it shouldn’t raise too much issue once they find the rhythm in the tournament. The batting power is good while the bowling looks a bit thin. They don’t have a proper fast bowler and Lungi Ngidi looks the only front line pacer in the squad.

In terms of batting, the trio of Jadhav, Raina and Rayudu will have to take care of the middle order while MS Dhoni is always available to take the game away from oppositions on a given day. Overall it looks a good squad and we will have to see how they fare in the IPL.
