The IPL auction took place last month and we shall look how Kolkata Knight Riders fared in the auction.

Players Retained:

KKR had the opportunity to hold up to three players but they only held two players. It was Andre Russell and Sunil Narine that they retained while two time IPL winning skipper Gautam Gambhir was put up in the auction.

Sunil Narine is still a Knight

Auction:

In the auction, the Knight Riders bought Mitchell Starc as their first player for a whopping 9.6 crore. They also used their right to match card to retain Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa and Piyush Chawla. Knight Riders have bought Dinesh Karthik while they have still kept hold of Kuldeep Yadav, the left arm chinaman who for now is creating havoc in South Africa.

In terms of their overseas stars, the Knight Riders opted for Mitchell Johnson and Cameron Delport as bowling and batting all rounders.

Chris Lynn has been handy for the Knight Riders

Another department where the Kolkata franchise has emphasized is their youth talent, as they have bagged 3 under 19 stars of the Indian side. Shubman Gill, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi all will be wearing the purple of the team from Bengal.

Full Squad:

Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Starc, Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Kuldeep Singh Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Nitish Rana, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Mitchell Johnson, Shubman Gill, Ranganath Vinay Kumar, Rinku Singh, Cameron Delport, Javon Searles, Apoorv Vijay Wankhade, Ishank Jaggi

Analysis:

In terms of the number of players, KKR have only 19 and it is the lowest. The thing is that they have a strong eleven but they haven’t thought beyond that. There hasn’t yet been a captain announced and it has been a more bowling heavy squad. Although they do have some young talents in Nitish Rana and Apporv Wankhede along with the under 19 trio, but we don’t see a lot of experienced twenty 20 players in the team. Some pundits have already knocked KKR out, but it will be interesting to see how they approach.

The exuberance of youth can well be outstanding for them but can this squad go all the way? Only time will tell.
