Liverpool may have climbed up to the third spot of the league tally banking on a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town, their weekend clash at Anfield was tipped to be a difficult one against in-form Tottenham Hotspur who were high on confidence banking on a sound victory over Manchester United and were pushing hard to get inside the ‘top four’ of the Premier League table.

The game, however, proved to be an end-to-end thriller and one late controversial decision from the assistant referee earned Spurs a lifeline to make it all square at Anfield.

Liverpool had a scintillating start when Mohamed Salah put them ahead within three minutes following a costly mistake from Eric Dier. But they looked negative and their defensive approach allowed Spurs to press high up the pitch and search for an equalizer. They finally got one late in the game when substitute Victor Wanyama’s thunderous strike went straight into the back of the net. Spurs could have gone ahead when Loris Karius, the Reds custodian, conceded a penalty by taking down Harry Kane inside the box. But the German keeper did well to prevent his spot-kick and Mo Salah’s brilliant solo goal earned the Reds a lead in the injury time. But the drama was still left as the assistant referee controversially awarded the visitors a late penalty despite Jon Moss’ waved off Erik Lamela’s appeal. Kane made no mistake this time and made it 2-2 to steal one crucial away point on the road.
