Four major talking points ahead of Premier League Gameweek 26

Liverpool and Tottenham will lock horns in the most exciting fixture of the upcoming gameweek.

Gameweek 26 is going to be the first set of Premier League matches after the winter transfer window, and there will be a few new names in the starting lineups this weekend.

Let us start with a look at the complete fixtures of Gameweek 26:

And now, here are a few interesting talking points.

Will Manchester City further increase the lead?

Pep Guardiola’s team have got a fifteen points advantage over second-placed Manchester United who lost their last game against Tottenham. This weekend, they will face Huddersfield who actually defeated them in the reverse leg. Thus, another upset is not totally out of the blue. On the other hand, Manchester City will face this season’s surprise package Burnley, and they are indeed a strong defensive side. Naturally, all eyes will be on these two matches to see which of the two city-rivals can get the better side of the deal in Gameweek 26.

Will Chelsea sink further?

The Blues are having a terrible run of late. After five consecutive draws in all competitions (they won in penalties in the FA Cup match against Norwich), they returned to winning ways with a thumping 4-0 victory against Brighton and Hove Albion. However, last weekend, Bournemouth caused a huge uproar when they got an emphatic 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. This home defeat brings into question whether Chelsea can find their touch before the scintillating Champions League encounter against Barcelona. And needless to say, Gameweek 26’s trip to Watford has to be the beginning of their rejuvenation.

Liverpool or Tottenham – fight to the top:

At this moment, the Reds sit at the third spot in the league table, thanks to a better goal-difference over Chelsea, whereas Mauricio Pochettino’s boys are only two points behind. They can also boast of a better goal-margin over Chelsea. Thus, if Spurs manage to win against Liverpool, they will surely move to the top four, and if things do not go to Chelsea’s way in the Monday night fixture, Harry Kane and co can even find themselves at the third  spot. Quite evidently, stakes are very high for the Super Sunday fixture.

Theo Walcott returns to the Emirates:

In Gameweek 26, we will witness another big match in the form of Arsenal vs Everton. And this is going to be very important for Walcott, who just moved to the Goodison Park, after spending 12 long years at Arsenal. The winger has already found his scoring boots in the last match, when Everton defeated Leicester City 2-1. This weekend, all eyes will be on the Englishman. Especially, the boss will rely on his genius to get three points against an out-of-form Arsenal, who were handed a surprise 1-3 defeat against Swansea City last week.
