After a break in the last weekend due to FA Cup fixtures, the Premier League was back in midweek.
The game-week saw Liverpool FC return to winning ways and climbing up to 3rd, while Chelsea and Arsenal slumped to humiliating defeats against AFC Bournemouth and Swansea City. Leaders City maintained their lead at the top of the table while in the big match, Tottenham Hotspurs got the better of Manchester United. Here are the top goals of the week:
3.) Sergio Aguero(Manchester City) vs West Bromwich Albion:
Table Toppers Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the table to 15 points after second placed city rivals United slipped up and they recorded their 22nd win of the season. Goals from Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne and star striker Sergio Aguero ensured another comfortable 3-0 win against the The Baggies. The Argentine’s 3rd goal was a beautifully executed finish from the Citizens. England forward Raheem Sterling won the ball at the centre of the park and started to run with 3 defenders tracking him down. After nearing to 25 yards to the goal, Sterling forwarded a through ball for Aguero. The Argentine managed to get the better of his marker Ahmed Hegazi and made the run. After a forward run with the ball with 2 defenders converging on his shoulders and an onrushing Ben Foster, Manchester City’s record goal scorer found the back of the net with a picturesque chip.
2.) Emre Can(Liverpool FC) vs Huddersfield Town:
Jurgen Klopp’s side returned to winning ways after two consecutive defeats. German midfielder Emre Can opened the scoring on 26th minute with a good looking long range goal. Central defenders Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren played passes in between before passing to Andrew Robertson on the left wing. The Scotsman’s cross was cleared by German Christopher Schindler only to fall into the path of his fellow countryman Can. His shot from distance took a slight deflection of Danish midfielder Philip Billing before finding bottom right corner.
1.) Christian Eriksen(Tottenham Hotspurs) vs Manchester United:
The new Premier League record crowd of 81978 were still settling down at the iconic Wembley stadium when Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen scored our pick for the goal of the week. The goal came 11 seconds after the kick off, which is the third fastest ever. Mousa Dembele’s pass from the kick off went to centre back Jan Vertonghen who launched a long ball forward into the United box. Star forward Harry Kane won the header in an aerial challenge with Phil Jones just outside the box. Dele Alli chased the ball down with Chris Smalling on his shoulder before putting the ball back with a back-heel pass. The ball fell nicely onto the path of Danish superstar, who calmly put the ball into the left corner with his left foot.
