A convincing win from the Blues after a League Cup semi-final exit against Arsenal.

Chelsea’s season has hit a new low in recent weeks following their League Cup semi-final exit and poor Premier League outings have made them only a ‘Top Four’ aspirer alongside Spurs, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

They have been drawn against Barcelona in the Round of 16 of UEFA Champions League and hold a very slim opportunity to proceed further. The Emirates FA Cup thus remains their only title-hope this season and their Stamford Bridge 4th Round tie against Newcastle United was expected to be an entertaining clash as the Magpies boss Rafael Benitez had a point to prove against his former employers.

The game, as expected, turned out to be a cakewalk for the Blues who grabbed a commanding 3-0 win against Newcastle United.

The hosts were dominant from the beginning and despite being opened up on a few occasions, custodian Caballero came to rescue from early troubles. It took just over 30 minutes to break the deadlock when Michy Batshuayi netted from Alonso’s assist. The Belgian struck once again in closing minutes of the first-half as his effort took a touch off Lascelles and looped over Darlow into the net. The first-half ended 2-0 in favor of the Blues.

Chelsea continued their dominance in the second-half too and increased their lead when Marcos Alonso netted spectacularly from a free-kick. Ther margin could have been bigger if there was no Karl Darlow in goal as he denied a few more decent opportunities.

The game thus ended 3-0 in favor of the Blues who march on through to the next round of the competition.
