Arsenal came from behind to win over Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates and book a place in the Final of the Carabao Cup.
Setting the Scene:
The first leg of the tie ended 0-0 at Stamford Bridge. It also was the last match for Alexis Sanchez as an Arsenal player.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger went with a four men back line but their defensive frailty was still persistent. The Gunners were a bit shaky at the start as Pedro scored a goal early but was ruled out offside, but a couple of minutes later Hazard was threaded through and Arsenal’s defense was exposed as the Belgian scored it this time to give the Blues a deserved lead. Gunners though were only behind for four minutes as Ozil’s corner was met by Monreal’s head, but his header took a double deflection and ended up in the back of the net, and it was given as a Rudiger own goal.
Arsenal are through to the Final of the Carabao Cup
The Gunners though were the second best team in the first half as Chelsea kept the possession and was looking more potent. Willian hobbled off with a hamstring injury but it was all squares at the break with Chelsea getting an away goal.
Arsenal started the second half in good fashion as they looked much more convincing in passing and their movement was more rapid. Arsenal got their elusive second goal to put them ahead on aggregate when Lacazette hold up the ball extremely well and found Xhaka, who scored from close range. Blues although tried hard after that to equalize, but Arsenal defense stood tall. Monreal was excellent while the centre back pair of Koscielny and Mustafi also did a terrific job. Iwobi missed a chance to kill the game but his shot was saved by Caballero. It was no way this time for the West London side as Arsenal held on and they advance to the final at Wembley.
