According to a few recent reports, Brazilian club Gremio FBPA are currently considering to sell their top prospect Arthur de Oliveira Melo (commonly regarded as Arthur) to either Manchester United or Chelsea FC.
In recent months, Arthur has emerged as one of the top prospects in South America and has risen as one of the top footballing talents in Brazil.
The 21-year-old’s performance against Real Madrid CF at the FIFA Club World Cup final has engaged interest from numerous top European clubs, including Madrid’s biggest rivals FC Barcelona. The Brazilian youngster has led Gremio’s central midfield from the front and FC Barcelona have been seemingly interested in bringing in the the 2017 Copa Libertadores winner.
However, the Daily Mail believes that Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea FC are also scouting the Goiania born midfielder and Gremio are apparently interested in negotiating with both teams as well. It has also been reported that the Brazilian club are looking to sell Arthur for a total transfer fee of £30-35 million.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, FC Barcelona could also set to miss out on the signing of Arthur due to Gremio being interested in negotiating with United and Chelsea instead.
The Catalonians’ chances of signing Arthur is currently very less due to La Liga allowing their clubs to name only three non-EU players in their squad, and those positions are currently occupied by Phillipe Coutinho, Paulinho, and Yerri Mina.
Manchester United and Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on other experienced players than Arthur, who are capable of adding more veteran experience to the team squad.
However, Gremio could possibly also set up talks with either Arsenal FC or Manchester City, who are both keeping tabs on the 21-year-old youngster and for the time being it is still unsure on which club Arthur is eventually going to end up with in the future.
